Negotiation Preparation

You are expected to prepare in advance for the 12 in-class negotiation simulations this semester. To prepare for these, you will have to submit a write up before each negotiation, where you organize your thoughts around new course concepts and consider how you may apply them during that negotiation.

Preparation is key for effective negotiation!

Instructions

Each preparation should be at least 500 words long and use APA-style citations as needed, acknowledge any assistance, and otherwise conform to the course’s formatting requirements.

Most importantly, negotiation preparations without a properly filled out cover page (i.e., a completed Commitment to Academic Integrity Form) will not be read and will earn an automatic F (failure).

Much more detailed instructions for each negotiation preparation will be provided as they are assigned.

Evaluation & Grading

Each negotiation preparation is graded P or F (pass or fail). Not turning in a preparation or not answering all of its assigned questions will earn an automatic F (failure).

Your overall negotiation preparation grade is determined by (1) taking the number of Ps you have earned and dividing this by 12, and (2) normalizing this ratio to the 100-point grading scale.

# Ps Normalized Points Letter Grade
12 100.00 A
11 91.67 A−
10 83.33 B
9 75.00 C
8 66.67 D
0–7 0.00–58.33 F

Using Free Passes

You may use one free pass to automatically pass (P) a regular negotiation preparation. (This includes not turning in a write up at all for that negotiation.)

Collaboration & Academic Integrity

Your preparations are closed to collaboration. These are not group assignments.

Ultimately, I expect that you complete your negotiation preparations entirely on your own. However, please be honest if you do receive any assistance or use the ideas of another. This includes help from classmates, your friends and family, the Center for Excellence in Writing (CEW), as well as from me. The the cover page with its Commitment to Academic Integrity Form will remind you to do this. .

In addition, please do not reveal to anyone anything from your confidential negotiation instructions. This will ensure no one has an unfair advantage during our negotiation activities.
