Description:
This paddle is nice on a windy day, since the wind is almost always blocked through the channel of the Creek. It's also an ideal spot to catch a glimpse of a heron or two, taking flight or hiding along the water's edge. This particular section of the Creek that I've used for paddling, runs from Amherst to the opening of the Niagara River in the City of Tonawanda. There are a number of boat launches along the way, listed below as links. This makes a nice evening paddle after work, since it's so close to me and the multiple boat launches make it easy to vary the length and location of the paddle. The Creek is some of the quietest water in this area, and, because of that, was the very first place I took my kayak.
The parks close at dusk, and have only been locked in once (a friend helped show me an alternate way out...:)), so you have to make it back before the gatekeeper locks you in!
