Description:
For this trip, the put-in was the Sweeney Street boat launch, located on Sweeney Street, just west of Roberts Drive in North Tonawanda.
Each time I've done this, we've paddled against current to the Grand Island bridge, then turned around from exhaustion or thoughts of Saigon Bangkok's delights :). Paddling along this section of the Niagara River affords varying scenic views. Nia-Wanda Park, Isle-View Park are located back-to-back along the River here, with a bike/walk path traversing the length of the parks. The path leads into Tonawanda and through Gateway Park, which holds concerts through the summer months.
Put-in:
Sweeney Street Boat Launch
Take the 290 to Colvin exit (Rte 425), Northbound
Take Colvin over a set of bridges to Orchard Place(your first exit), make a Right
Take Orchard Place to Spruce Street, make another Right
At the end of Spruce Street, make a Left onto Sweeney Street
The Boat Launch will be on your right, but parking will be across the road on the grass.
