Removed December 16

  • Problem set 14 (the last one!) has been posted.
  • Final exam information:
    • Scheduled for Monday December 13, 3:30-6:30 pm at Natural Sciences Complex (NSC) 222.
    • Covers material presented since Exam 2, viz. problem sets 10-14, chapters 6 and 7 of the text.  Note that we will not be covering chapter 9 this semester, so it will not be on the exam.
    • The exam will differ slightly from Exams 1 and 2.  There will (as before) be a few questions taken from the book problems, but other questions may be given as well.
    • The length of the exam (i.e., the number of questions) will be comparable to the previous exams, even though the time allotted to take it is doubled.  Thus you should have plenty of time to complete the exam.
  • Note that all problem set and exam solutions are available (after they are due!) in Makin' Copies, a copy center located in the UB Commons.

  • The lecture scheduled for Thurs 9/23 will instead be held during the recitation period on Wed 9/22.  The TA will conduct recitation during the 9/23 lecture period.
  • Prof. Ryan will deliver the 9/28 and 9/30 lectures.
  • Exam #1 will be held on October 7.
    • Material from Chaps. 1-3, problems sets 1-5 will be tested.
    • You will have the full 75-minute class period to complete the exam.
    • The exam is open book.  Absolutely no notes or other materials are permitted, including notes written in your book.  You may be asked to trade your book with a classmate before the exam, so you should not expect to have available the book you bring to the exam.
    • You may use a calculator, ruler, and other such aids.
    • All of the problems on the exam will be taken from the problems given at the end of each chapter of the book.  This might or might not include assigned homework problems and class/recitation examples.
