Charles Van Riper (1905-1994)

Charles Van Riper was known in the field of speech-language pathology for his therapy approaches to stuttering and articulation and for his classic book that went through nine editions: Speech Correction: Principles and Methods. He died at 89 years of age, in Kalamazoo, Michigan in April 1994. Van Riper founded Western Michigan University's speech, hearing and language clinic in 1936. The clinic was renamed after him in 1983.
