Throughout the semester, you will be assigned a variety of different professional development tasks.

Here’s What I Want You to Do

These are the eight professional development tasks that you will be doing this semester:

  1. Professional photo & Handshake profile.
  2. Online profiles.
  3. Digital challenge cards.
  4. Online profile review.
  5. Making professional connections.
  6. Informational interview scheduled.
  7. Informational interview report.
  8. Design your life.

Clicking on a task above will provide you with more detailed instructions for completing that particular task.

Here’s Why I Want You to Do It

The purpose of these professional development tasks is to prepare for your life after graduation while also encouraging you to better understand how the ideas and skills you are learning in this class may prove useful for your future careers.

As such, these tasks will help you achieve these learning outcomes for this course:

5. Connect philosophy with your own lived experiences.
6. Put philosophy into action.

Here’s How to Do It

Be sure that you are carefully reading the instructions for each task, following all of them, and then submitting your evidence of completion on time as scheduled. Do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have confusions or difficulties.

Here’s How You’ll Earn Philosophy Experience Points

Taken all together, the professional development tasks are worth a total of 2,200 philosophy experience points and each task will be assessed based on completion. That is, if you complete a task on time and as instructed, you will earn all of that task’s points. If you do not do all this, then you will earn 0 points.

Using Philosopher’s Stones

You may exchange 1 philosopher’s stone for a 24-hour extension for completing any professional development task (except for the design your life task, which is done during a class meeting). Please note that an extension begins immediately after the task’s original due date/time. Additional stones may be used for even longer extensions. Email me if this is something you would like to do.

Collaboration & Academic Integrity

Feel free to discuss these tasks with your classmates, sharing tips on how to do them better. Most tasks (like the professional photo) can even be done at the same time with your classmates. That makes things way more fun! However, please be sure that you are ultimately completing each task on your own. After all, the purpose of these is to help improve your career readiness.

In short, I expect you to complete your own professional development tasks. These are not group activities. Let me know if you are struggling and I’ll gladly help!

Above all, please be honest if you do receive any outside assistance or use the ideas of others. This includes using AI tools. In any of those cases, be sure to let me know what assistance you received, and I will let you know how to properly acknowledge that assistance in accordance with standards of academic integrity.
