Description:
Canadice Lake and Hemlock Lake both make a nice quiet paddle, and since they are right next to each other, can be done in the same day. Fishing and boating are allowed by permit only (yeah, that goes for us self-propelled vessels, too). You can get a permit free of charge by stopping at the self-service booth at the north end of nearby Hemlock Lake. It was about 95 degrees the day I paddled Hemlock. I paddled from one end to the next, then back. The Lake is 7 miles long, making for a 14 mile paddle. A very long paddle, but a great day to spend the entirety of it on the water. Only you can't swim at Hemlock. It's prohibited due to it being one of the sources of water for the City of Rochester.
Put-in:
Public boat access is located in two spots: on the northeast corner of the lake, off Rix Road, and at the southeast corner off Route 15A. I used the first one, off Rix Road.
