Prototype of a CD-Rom learning application to
teach English to deaf students in Egypt.

The Learning English CD-ROM project was developed
in collaboration with Nahed Ghoneim, a Fullbright Fellowship recipient, under
the advisement of Razik Taher of the Department of Educational Leadership
and Policy of the Graduate School of Education. Her goal was to
design a prototype of a program that used technology to entice students
to want to learn.
The project was focused on teaching deaf children
from Egypt how to use English as a second language. In her opinion
the illustrations, animations and video clips of the corresponding
sign language added a multimodal aspect to the learning process.
Nahed used the prototype computer program in a study with students
back in her homeland of Egypt. Her research included assessing if
there is any difference in learning outcomes between a group of
students who have access to the program and a control group of students
who do not use the computer program in their learning.
