My favorite subset of electrical engineering is power and energy systems. While studying abroad in France, I had the opportunity to take a course that allowed me to do some real characteriazation of transformers and synchronous machines. We studied a single phase transformer, modeled the losses due to eddy currents and hysteresis, peformed characterization tests (open and short circuit) and tested the effect of different power factors on transformer operation.

For my senior design project, I worked with National Grid on a design of a training facility for electrical linemen to be built primarily from funding from the Buffalo Billion. To create an optimal facility we met with engineers from National Grid frequently, generated drawings using AutoCAD Electrical, met with instructors from some of ECC's technical programs including Green Building Technology Center, and delivered a presentation and report to stakeholders.
