            Dr. Jehle is the Director of Emergency Services at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), the Regional Adult Level 1 Trauma Center for Western New York.  He is an Associate Professor (recommended for promotion to full professor) and Vice Chairman of Emergency Medicine at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.  Dr. Jehle has 16 years of administrative experience as an Emergency Department Director and has helped start two residency training programs in Emergency Medicine. The SUNY @ Buffalo Emergency Medicine Residency Program has grown from 27 to 36 residents. The Emergency Department at the Erie County Medical Center is responsible for 80% of the hospital's admissions and the Emergency Department patient volume has steadily increased from 36,000 to over 50,000 in the last eight years. In addition, the Emergency Department runs one of the world’s busiest Emergency Telemedicine programs. ECMC has had the best trauma outcomes in New York State and our cardiac outcomes also rank among the top facilities in the state. The Department of Emergency Medicine at ECMC is responsible for over 50 prehospital care agencies and Dr. Jehle was a founder of the Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART).  He is also Director of Stadium Medical Services for the Buffalo Bills. 

Dr. Jehle co-authored the first text on Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine and first Trauma Ultrasound textbook. He authored the first studies of Ultrasound by Emergency Physicians in the diagnosis of blunt abdominal trauma, intrauterine pregnancy vs. ectopic pregnancy, gallbladder disease and abdominal aortic aneurysms. In addition, he authored the first studies of the use of oximetry in prehospital care and the initial study of head cooling in cardiac arrest. Dr. Jehle is the Trauma section editor of the best selling electronic Emergency Medicine text PEPID.  He has authored 5 texts, 15 book chapters and published 43 articles in peer reviewed journals.

            Dr. Jehle is a former Chairman of the Technology Committee for the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, past Board Examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine and former Board Member of the New York Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  He is the recipient of the American College of Emergency Physicians “National Faculty Teaching Award” and “Emergency Ultrasound Award”.  Dr. Jehle is the ECMC Site Director for the Center for Transportation Injury Research and in this capacity he directs a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and support staff.
