The
New York Association for Specialists in Group Work will be
sponsoring a THREE day conference in May 2006. May 17th will
consist of an all day training in advanced group work skills,
May 18th of 1 1/2 and 3-hour presentations on group
work topics; proposals are being accepted until 3/15/06. On May
19th, Dr. Michael Hutchins, prominent author and group work
expert, will present an all day workshop on How To Have
Therapeutic Conversations With Students and Clients About Sex:
Education, Sexuality, Orientation, and Abuse.

A. Michael
Hutchins, Ph.D. is a
professional counselor in private practice in Tucson, Arizona, is
on-staff at Cottonwood de Tucson Treatment Center, and is an adjunct
faculty member in school counseling at the University of Arizona. He
specializes in working with adolescent and adult males who have
histories of sexual abuse and trauma. Michael is an advocate of
group work and has incorporated experiential and adventure-based
group approaches into his work with men and their families.
Michael became active
in the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW) when he
chaired the first ASGW Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Issues Task Force.
He represented ASGW on the first ACA Human Rights Committee, which
he chaired, and has served as the ASGW newsletter editor and was
ASGW President in 1997-98. He was selected as an ASGW Fellow in
2000.
Michael is a founding
member of Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) and was the
organization’s first president. He currently represents CSJ on the
ACA Governing Council. He is passionate about addressing issues of
discrimination and oppression in our profession and in the
community-at-large. He was honored to receive the ACA Kitty Cole
Human Rights Award.
Michael served as
Chair of the Association for Gay Lesbian and Bisexual Issues in
Counseling (AGLBIC) from 1990-93, and received the Joe Norton Award
for his work on gay, lesbian and bisexual issues. He has written
about sexual identity development and has begun to speak and write
about “sexual minority” concerns in order to be more inclusive of
people of different sexualities. Michael is on the City of Tucson
Commission on Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues.
Michael believes that each of us has an obligation to work within
our profession and in our community to advocate for social justice
and human rights concerns. He is honored to be part of the New York
Association for Specialists in Group Work conference.

Dr. Bill Kline
|

William Kline, Ph.D., PCC, NCC, CCMHC,
CGP is a Counselor Education program faculty member at the
University of Mississippi. Dr. Kline has served as a faculty member at various
institutions and has an extensive range of experiences in agencies and
private practice. His primary teaching areas include masters and
doctoral level courses in group counseling, qualitative research,
professional orientation, and supervision of practica and internships.
Along with his role as a program faculty member, he serves as Editor for
Counselor Education and Supervision the journal for the Association
for Counselor Education and Supervision.
Dr. Kline has served as a member of editorial boards for
the Journal in Specialists in Group Work and Counselor
Education and Supervision. He has participated on national
certification bodies (National Board for Certified Counselors – Clinical
Academy and the National Academy for Certified Clinical Mental Health
Counselors). He also has served on numerous committees for the
Association for Specialists in Group Work and other ACA divisions and
has been president of the Rocky Mountain Association for Counselor
Education and Supervision. Dr. Kline has received recognition for his
scholarship and career contributions in group work having twice received
article of the year awards from the Journal for Specialists in Group
Work and the Eminent Career Award from the Association for
Specialists in Group Work in 2003. In 2004, the membership of the
Association for Specialists in Group Work named him a Fellow in the
organization. His publications include articles in the areas of group
supervision, group process, group leadership and coleadership, group
counselor training processes, and counselor development. In 2003, Dr.
Kline published Interactive Group Counseling and Therapy. He has
presented extensively in the area of group work at state, regional,
national, and international venues.
Dr. Jerry Donigian
Jeremiah Donigian, D.Ed. is past president of the
Association
for Specialists in Group Work, is a Fellow in ASGW and has received the ASGW
Eminent Career Award. He is a member of the American Counseling Association,
and a clinical member and approved supervisor of the American Association of
Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Donigian is Professor Emeritus from the
Counseling Education Department at the State University of New York at
Brockport. He has coauthored
Critical
Incidents in Group Therapy (2nd edition, 1997), Systemic Group
Therapy: A Triadic Model I (1999), and Making Task Groups Work in Your World
(2001).
He continues his private practice in marriage, family, and group therapy. He
also has served as a consultant to various organizations and systems and has
conducted workshops and seminars at the local, state, regional, national, and
international levels.
