Our research in functional mapping of complex traits was mentioned in Nature Reviews Genetics Vol 5 No 4 (2004)
Using a recent statistical model for genome-genome interactions, we have discovered an embryo QTL that interacts with an endosperm QTL in an additive ´ additive epistatic manner to regulate gel consistency expressed in the endosperm in rice. This detected embryo QTL is just located at the position of a candidate gene, known as Waxy, on chromosome 6 that determines some major steps of amylose biosynthesis in cereals. Is it cool? This doscovery very well validates our statistical model!
