Computational Physics (Physics 477/577)

Spring 2017,  Spring 2018, Spring 2019

APHY 577 Computational Methods
Meeting Times: MWF 09:20 AM - 10:15 AM
Location: PH0225
Number of credits: 3

This is a one semester Computational Physics course. Ideally, at the end of this course, the student will be able to devise an algorithm for a given  problem, write and debug  the corresponding code, analyze the results and present them in a way that conveys the essential message that they contain.

Quantum Mechanics (Physics 547)

Fall 2017, Fall 2018, Fall 2019, Fall 2020

APHY 547 Quantum Mechanics 1
Meeting Times: MW 10:00 AM -  11:20 AM
Location: PH0129
Number of credits: 3

This is the first semester of the graduate Quantum Mechanics course. The course covers fundamental concepts from the Stern-Gerlach and similar
experiments to path  integrals in Quantum Mechanics and semi-classical approximations.

Teachers Workshops

Workshop 1:

Fall 2017, Spring 2019

How computers are extending the reach of science:  Brief overview of general subject of Computational Science and Computational Physics
followed by hands-on activity to develop a model and algorithm for a simulation of a predator-prey model. The workshop is open to all science teachers.

Introduction to Quantum Optics

Coming soon. An introduction to the interaction of light and matter from the early first steps to current applications in Quantum Information
Processing and Quantum Simulators.

Many Body Physics

Coming soon. An exploration of Many Body Physics and diagrammatic perturbation theory with an inclination towards its Condensed Matter
applications.

Quantum Physics at Work

Future course that will explore the general principles of quantum physics from a conceptual point of view. This will be a general education course for
the honors college and other interested students. The emphasis will be placed on applications of quantum physics that are in use in common
technologies.
