I will measure your progress and success in Introduction to Ethics by using three forms of assessment:
- Participation on Twitter that displays your ongoing attempts to better understand and apply the course material presented in the readings and discussed in my module videos,
- Weekly quizzes that are embedded in my videos and that are posted at the end of each module for check your basic understanding of the material for that module, and
- Unit exams that have you demonstrate your knowledge of key terminology, summarize arguments from the reading, apply course material to new cases, compare competing claims about ethics, and justify positions of your own on issues raised during the course.
When calculating your final grade for the course, these requirements will be weighted as follows:
Participation (Twitter) | 10% | |
Weekly Quizzes
Three weekly quiz grades are automatically dropped: (1) your lowest from weeks 1 through 4, (2) your lowest from weeks 5 through 9, and (3) your lowest from weeks 10 through 15. |
30% | |
6 Unit Exams
Your lowest unit exam grade is automatically dropped. Formatting requirements and templates. |
60% |
The total possible score may vary from assignment to assignment. Therefore, each assignment’s raw score is normalized to the following 100-point scale for determining letter grades:
Normalized Points | Letter Grade | |
---|---|---|
93.0–100.0 | A | |
90.0–92.9 | A− | |

80.0–82.9 | B− | |
77.0–79.9 | C+ | |
73.0–76.9 | C | |
70.0–72.9 | C− | |
67.0–69.9 | D+ | |
60.0–66.9 | D | |

Your final course grade will be on this same scale, with each assignment weighed using the above percentages.
