Product Description: The bacterial enzyme b-galactosidase (b-Gal) is a widely used reporter enzyme, the activity of which can be conveniently measured spectrophotometrically (J. Med. Chem. 7:574,1964). The b-Gal Staining Kit is based on the histochemical substrate 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-b-D-galactopyranoside (Xgal) for in situ staining of transgenic tissues or monolayer cells transiently or stably expressing b-Gal (see b-Galactosidase Assay Kit). The cells expressing b-Gal stain blue after mild fixation and substrate exposure. The product is for research use only.
Features: The staining kit requires minimal steps for staining b-Gal. This method provides rapid information regarding exogenous expression of b-Gal in animal tissue and transfection efficiency in cell culture. Note that a 4% paraformaldehyde solution is required for cell fixation, but is not included in the kit.
