Thomas Sullivan and Margaret Grady

Thomas Sullivan and Margaret Grady were born in County Kerry, Ireland. Thomas was probably born between 1843-1845. His parents were Thomas Sullivan and Catherine Harrington. Margaret's parents were Michael and Bridget Grady (Bridget's maiden name unknown.) Some sources give Margaret's birthdate as May 1845, or some time in 1850. They were married in Glenbeigh, County Kerry, Ireland on January 22, 1867. In the late 1870's - early 1880's they emigrated to Canada, and lived in Simcoe, Ontario for a time. Later, they came to the United States and settled in Buffalo's First Ward. Census records of 1900 show Thomas and Margaret, with five of their children; John, Michael, Margaret, Jenny (Eugena), and Annie (Johanna), living at 99 Elk Street. Margaret died July 15, 1900, one month after this census was taken. Thomas, John, and Michael's occupations are listed as "Day Laborer", employed 8 months of the year. A later 1915 New York State Census lists Thomas' occupation as grain shoveler, which would explain the lack of employment for 4 months. At this time, Thomas was living with his daughter Jenny, her husband Charles Roessler and their family. Thomas died June 15, 1915, two weeks after this census was taken. Thomas and Margaret are both buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, NY. Their plots are in Section R, Lot 12, not far from the original burial location of Father Nelson Baker, who is now entombed in Our Lady of Victory Basilica.
