Daniel Johnson was the fourth child of Obadiah (1752-1834) and Lois Winchell Johnson (1759-1834). He was born on July 12, 1785 in New Marlborough, Massachesetts. He married Clarissa Blackmer in 1806. She was born in New Marlborough, Massachesetts on February 12, 1790. She was the daughter of Titus and Orpha Winchell Blackmer.

Daniel and Clarissa came from Pompey, New York apparently with his father Obadiah and family sometime before 1808. Although his parents and family moved to Sodus, New York about this time, it is quite doubtful that Daniel ever lived in Sodus. His oldest child, Titus, was born in Pompey in 1807 and his second child, Absalom, was born in Brutus, Cayuga County, New York in 1809. In 1812 and 1814 we find him in Nunda, New York. From 1818 to 1824 he resided in Pike or Eagle, Allegany County, New York. Some time between 1824 and 1825 he came to Stockton, Chautauqua County, New York where he settled permanently. Clarissa died March 10, 1856 in Stockton, Chautauqua County, New York. Daniel died August 30, 1861 in Stockton, Chautauqua County, New York.
