Your grade in the course is determined by your performance in exams and weekly assignments according to the following formula:
- 3 exams (including Final):
- lowest score counts 5% (based on T-score; see below)
- remaining exams count 35% each
Weekly assignments 25%
More specifically, your grade on each exam is converted into a T-score. The T-score is given by
(Raw score) - (Class average)
T-score = ------------------------------
(Class standard deviation)
where "Raw score" is the your score on the exam as returned to you, and the other quantities are class statistics for the exam.
The Class average and standard deviations on the various exams will be recorded in the following table
Exam |
Class Average |
Standard Deviation |
Exam #1 |
52.2 |
17.7 |
Exam #2 |
55.2 |
18.9 |
Final Exam |

Homework raw score is obtained by summing your scores on all homeworks and dividing by the total possible score (through PS#14, this is 740), and multiplying by 100.
Your Overall T-score is obtained from your exam/homework T-scores, each weighted as described above.
Your Overall T-score translates roughly into a letter grade as follows.
