My primary scholarly interest is examining information management behaviors in health and risk contexts!

I am a third-year PhD student in our Department of Communication, Diversity Fellow of the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), prior president of our department's Graduate Student Association, and Graduate Ambassador for CAS. Below is a snapshot of the research and work I'm proud of; past and present.

My research examines how individuals manage uncertainty around chronic illness and how our healthcare system enables and constrains opportunities for care. Currently, I'm investigating how caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease manage chronic uncertainty and different sources of information. Through an application of the theory of motivated information management, I'm also examining how uncertainty appraisals influence our decisiosn to learn about advance care planning. Finally, in a partnership with the Erie County Department for the Aging (DFA), we're looking to improve health outcomes among lonely and socially isolated older adults. Below is a conference presentation on my work regarding information seeking related to mental health among young adults. This was at The Society for Risk Analysis' 2024 meeting in Austin Texas!

As a young scholar, my work with the DFA might be what I'm most proud of. During the summer between my first and second years as a PhD student, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the DFA as a Social Impact Fellow. During this time, my partnered fellows and I facilitated a Needs Assessment to examine opportunities for improvement for addressing older adult challenges in Erie County. Below is a picture of me with my other fellows, Gwen and Anirudh!

Though I'm a third-year PhD student at the University at Buffalo (UB), this is actually my ninth year as a student here! I've spent 4 years at UB for my Undergraduate degree and two years for my Master's degree. As a graduate student, my experience is shaped by my interactions with other students. As a graduate ambassador for CAS, I've directed webinars and participated in panels to assist undergraduate students at navigating the application process and prepare for graduate student life. Below is a picture of my fellow panelists and I at UB's National Undergraduate Conference!

My wife and I love to travel to different national parks when we can, the titular picture is from Acadia. We woke up at 4 A.M. to see the first sunrise in the continental US! For our honeymoon, we went to Washington to see the Olympic, Mt. Rainier, and the North Cascades parks. Below is a picture from Paradise at Mt. Rainier, it's an incredible national park!
