Typical Scheme for Fulfillment of PhD Requirements


Semester 1-4: Registration for 12 credit hours per semester; completion of all required courses (total: 18 h); completion of elective courses (total: >= 10 credit hours, including >= 6 h from course taken outside the Department)  sum=48 h

Semester 5: Registration for 4 h (2 h PHC 599, Supervised Teaching; 1 h seminar; 1 h research) sum=52 h

Semester 6: Registration for 7 h (2 h PHC 599, Supervised Teaching; 1 h seminar; 1 h research; 3 h PHC 511, Research Proposal) sum=59 h

Semester 7 & 8: Registration for 3 credit h per semester (2 h research, 1 h seminar) sum=65 h

Semester 9 and beyond: Registration for research only (at least 1 h/semester; q.s. to 72 total credit hours for satisfactory completion of the PhD program). sum=72 h
