A Korean Veteran

My Dad in Korea. Yes, a war veteran. I realized that my two Uncles and and my Father-in-Law are all veterans. Three from WWII and my Dad from Korea. No wonder my opinions about the military vary from a number of my friends. I come from a family of warriors. Of course, these men would laugh at the notion that they were warriors, but if you understand the use of the word it is a most fitting description.

They fought for our country, our way of life our families ... and no doubt things were done and happened that are ugly. That is part of their sacrifice so we can live "comfortably". No, so that we can live ...

Sorry, a bit of the hawk in me came out. We live in a tooth and claw world and the honorable warrior is necessary and when they maligned, well it feels a little personal ... sort of.

I wonder what the intent of this picture was. My Dad was a Sergeant in an artillery unit. Not exactly close-quarter combat. Was this pistol just in case? I will never know.

Dad didn't speak much about the war. That was in the past for him. Ah, you should have seen the Service men at the funeral and the military ritual honoring my Fathers service.

Duty, Honor and Courage ... what better words to describe such a great man.

My Dad, how I miss you ...
