Camus – The Myth of Sisyphus

Primary Source:

  • Camus, “Philosophy and Fiction”, “Ephemeral Creation”, and “The Myth of Sisyphus”, in MS, pp. 93-104, 113-123

Background:

In “Philosophy and Fiction” and “Ephemeral Creation”, Camus describes absurd creation, one of the highest forms of life that confront the absurd. In “The Myth of Sisyphus” he summarizes the whole of the work by interpreting the Sisyphus of legend as an exemplar of the absurd man.

Questions:

  • How is the writer an absurd creator?
  • How does Camus’ interpretation of the myth of Sisyphus illustrate his ideas of revolt, freedom, and passion?
