Teaching

I teach courses on strategy and entrepreneurship. My teaching focuses on learning by doing.

§  Undergraduate

I teach the capstone strategy course MGO403 at UB. Please visit UBLearns for more information. In the past, I have taught the strategy course at the University of Illinois and appeared on the list of excellent professors.

The course consists of a combination of case analysis, class discussion and team projects. You work on a consulting project in teams, develop skills in analyzing the industry, company resources/capabilities, company business-level and corporate-level strategies, and make recommendations to address strategic challenges facing the company.

I teach a seminar UE149 “New Venture Creation” in Spring with the Entrepreneurship Academy. Please contact me for a syllabus.

§  MBA

I teach MGO696 “Technology Entrepreneurship” in Fall 2012. Please contact me for a syllabus.

The course will walk you through the process of starting a new venture, from idea generation to execution. It consists of guest speakers, mini lectures, class pitches, and business plan presentations, and provides opportunities to attend venture capital and angel meetings in WNY. Your business plans will be judged by external judges.

The course is designed for graduate students in arts and sciences, engineering, health sciences, and management. Upper-level undergraduate students are also welcome.

The course will be particularly useful if you have a desire to found a technology venture at some stage of your career or anticipate working in an entrepreneurial or innovative environment.

Students from my MGO403 (Strategy) and MGO696 (Tech Entrepreneurship) classes have won business plan competitions and successfully started businesses.

§  PhD

I teach a seminar on strategy (MGO796). Here is the Strategy PhD seminar syllabus for 2012 (with the reading list).

In this course, you develop expertise in integrating scholarly studies, generating original ideas, and conducting meaningful research.

I am also interested in teaching venture capital and international business at the undergraduate, MBA and doctoral levels.
