Symbiodinium (SYM) Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST)

Welcome to The Santos Lab implementation of the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) (Altschul et al. 1990, Journal of Molecular Biology 215:403-410) from NCBI. The databases utilized in these BLAST searches are Symbiodinium and/or dinoflagellate-specific and downloaded on a monthly basis. The databases are constructed from all Symbiodinium/dinoflagellate sequences available from NCBI at the beginning of each month.  NOTE: sharp increases and decreases in the sizes of the databases (i.e., DinoNuc and SymbioNuc) are typically due to the release of sequences from EST projects and how NCBI indexes those data.

As of July 2022, the number of sequences in the databases are:

Symbiodinium (nucleotide):

1,404,082

Dinoflagellate (nucleotide):

5,481,840

Symbiodinium (amino acid):

450,363

Dinoflagellate (amino acid):

1,702,222
