This is the second tunnel out of Zion going east on UT 9. The more famous main tunnel (not pictured) took 11.5 months of blasting, cutting, and carving to create a passageway through the cliff. 22 ft in bore, 1.1 miles long and dedicated on July 4, 1930 it was the longest tunnel in the US and has the distinction of being the most expensive mile of road ever built.
