FLANK STEAK MARINADE

1 to 1½ lb. flank steak
Garlic: 3 cloves slivered
Hot pepper flakes: 1/2 teaspoon
Black Pepper: freshly ground, 1/4 teaspoon
Thyme, dried: 1 teaspoon
Cloves, grounbd: pinch
Brown sugar: 1 teaspoon packed

Score steak at 3/4 inch intervals and at 90 degree angles. Insert garlic slivers 
under surface. Mix other ingredients in bowl and then rub into steak on both 
sides. Cover with seran wrap, refrigerate and allow to marinate for at least 
4 hours. WASPs remove garlic before grilling or broiling. Others remove 2/3.
