"Circe Offering the Cup to Odysseus" (1891) John William Waterhouse |

Another artistic interpretation of Circe,
here represented in her encounter with Odysseus after she has
transformed his companions into hogs.
Notice Odysseus' reflection in mirror. He is drawing his sword as she offers him the drugged cup that would have changed him into an animal, but for the warning and antidote offered him by Hermes. Note the hog at her feet, one of Odysseus' transformed companions. |
