Class requirements:
1. Attendance: 2 free absences (oral grade lowered after
3rd). |
2. Oral participation: students must be prepared for each class
and must participate actively to receive good oral grade. Occasionally
students will be asked to lead class discussion. |
3. Two 2-4 page papers
(600 to 1000 words):
I (on a short story), due Oct. 6
II (on a poem or a play), due November 22
Format of Papers: (follow MLA style)
a. typed, double spaced
b. 1-inch margins all around
c. pages should be numbered
Content of Papers:
critical analyses of texts,
but not full-blown research papers
Note: Papers will be on works NOT read in class, but which
are included in the anthology.

4. Two exams: I, October 25 and II, December 8 (Each exam will
include material covered up to the day of the exam.) |
5. Cuestionario e Identificaciones (due at the beginning of
every class) |
Grade distribution:
Papers: I - 15% and II - 20%
Exams: I - 20% and II - 20%
C & I: 15%
Oral: 10%
*NOTE*: There is no extra credit available in this course.
Course objectives:
1. To provide reading skills and literary approaches that will allow students
to confront a text critically.
2. To give students the opportunity to put to practice their Spanish oral
and writing skills.
3. To critically examine works on an individual basis, but also to situate
them in their historical context and literary period.
