My research is at the intersection of mathematics, data science, network theory, image analysis, and neuroscience. I love applying deep, modern mathematical tools to interesting problems in data analysis, image analysis, and neuroscience. I am currently working on applying tools from topology, a relatively modern field of mathematics, to automate data extraction from calcium image movies. These movie contain the neural activity of a small section of a living awake mouse and there is an essential need in the field of neuroscience for the automated extraction of this data. I am also developing sophisticated mathematical tools, using multilayer networks, for analysing the data from these movies. In particular I am interested in looking at functional community structure and how that changes with time and brain state.
