On July 15, 2001 the eleven  participants were picked up by the members of the Chinook Trial Association from the Portland Oregon airport or local hotels and traveled to Vancouver, Washington.  Don, the president of the Chinook Trail Association and fellow members of the organization graciously hosted and prepared dinner as a generous welcome for us.

The food was all home cooked and very delicious.  If anyone went hungry it was out of politeness not to make a bad impression!  While we were at Don's house, we all got to meet each other and the members of the Chinook Trail Association.  It was a very pleasant afternoon.  After dinner we all hopped into the cars and drove to Beacon Rock State Park where the Washington Forest Service hosted our base camp.

Prior to dinner, we all had the opportunity to enjoy a walk through Don's garden that he and his wife take much pride in.  The following pictures are from his garden
