The above listed independent study courses are open to advanced undergraduate and graduate students. They are typically designed around a specific topic or project goal. They can be dedicated to reading or to applied research.


Reading

Reading topics include, but are not limited to: critical theory, cultural studies, HCI/Robotics, perception theory (visual, audio, haptic and olfactory), data analysis, and machine perception (vision, other).


Applied Research

Applied research topics include, but are not limited to: interaction design, cross-cultural machine design, animal-machine-human interaction, long-term interaction, sensor design and evaluation, surveillance of all flavors, biometrics, active architecture, slow machines, multi-modal machines and critical robots.
