The initial scope of the database was to replace the manual tracking and assignment that was in place at Lehman High school. The system was maintained by one coordinator who oversaw 10 student workers. The common workflow was e-mail and phone calls from end users to the coordinator to report problems. The work was then sent out via e-mail and the students would reply when they resolved an issue. The system was horribly inefficient. We have however managed to correct that.
With the
introduction of a simple database the workflow can be drastically more
efficient. Requests for support will still sent to the same coordinator, however
he now inputs them into an access database that students can access throughout
the campus. Student workers can now monitor the database using built in reports
and queries to direct their work. This results in better labor utilization
