A Few of My Favorite Places
Some chosen websites to provide assistance in researching an individual, a law or code, or a new way to play.
People
New York State Department of Correctional Services = Inmate look-up provides data about incarcerated and paroled individuals.
New York State Sex Offender Registry = E-mail alerts will notify you if a registered offender moves in or out of your neighborhood.
County Clerk = The Monroe County Clerk and Erie County Clerk provide online access to public records.
Legal Information
United States Code = Two free sources for the federal laws: U.S. Government Printing Office and Cornell University Law School's Legal Information Institute. Both websites provide a wealth of additional information for lawyers and non-lawyers in the United States.
New York State Laws = New York does not make it easy for surfers to locate the laws of New York. On the Senate and Assembly website look for Legislative Information or Bill Search. Once there seek the Laws of New York in small print.
New York Code, Rules, and Regulations = The NYCRR includes everything from street sign sizes to lottery regulations. Court forms and administrative remedies are outlined in this publication. Word search or Table of Contents browsing options are available.
New York Codes = Fire, building, residential, plumbing, and mechanical code books are provided at no cost on the website. Additional code books are included. Current (2010) and historical (2007) editions are supplied by the Department of State.
New York State Attorney General = Car a lemon? Mobile home landlord-tenant problems? Harassed by bill collectors? Consumer complaint? This is the place to start for you.
Play Time!
Strong National Museum of Play = Superheroes, Muppets, and Mr. Potato Head can be found in the museum that houses the National Toy Hall of Fame. Membership fee is tax deductable.
Kids Out and About (Rochester) = One-stop site for family oriented activities. Contains reviews, home schooling, contests, and seasonal events. A weekly newsletter is available. Buffalo edition, too.
East Coast Xterra Challenge = This annual event presents several learning experiences and challenges for drivers and passengers. Mud, rocks, sun, and bugs contribute to a unique experience enjoyed by a community filled with amazing people.
Civil Service Job Seekers
New York State Department of Civil Service = Regularly posted exam announcements and applications. E-mail notification available.
New York State Unified Court System = UCS exams are listed seperately from the NYS Civil Service exams.
Monroe County, New York = E-mail notifications avaliable. Not your local county? Check your county and school district for exam and job announcements.
Travel
New York State Thruway Authority = Web cameras provide accurate road conditions on the interstate highways in New York.
American Automobile Association = membership provides a multitude of benefits including hotel, gas, and shopping discounts.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration = Text and e-mail weather alerts.
NY-Alert = Text and e-mail notification of weather and traffic advisories.
My Places

WXXI = My local PBS station. Check here for a wonderful Spring auction.
Xterras, Mud, and Books = Legal links, automotive observations, and the occassional soap-box lecture are shared in my blog.
NOVELny = NY Online Virtual Electronic Library requires a local library card or NYS Driver's Lisence number for log in. Website should be a favorite for any student seeking authoritative sources.
