Please read the script and follow the directions as you are going through. The directions will be similar from scenario to scenario. If the student asks you for a spelling, please give it to them. When giving the prescriptions, give a short pause each time you see a comma to give the student a chance to write things down. Each pause should be about a second or a little less.

TA: Hi, this is <name> from Dr. Dan White's office, and I'd like to call in a prescription for a patient of ours.

[Wait to be asked for office telephone number, do not volunteer this information -- Phone: 645-XXXX]

[Wait for response]

TA: The patient is Janet Stotch.

[Wait to be asked for date of birth, do not volunteer this information -- DOB: 6/2/62]

[Prompt them for readiness if they don't say, "OK" or "go ahead": Ready?]

TA: The patient called us today and wanted a refill on her blood pressure medication, so the doctor OK'd Mevacor, 40 milligrams, take 1 tablet by mouth every night at bedtime, number 30, with 5 refills.

[Wait for them to say something. Hopefully, they will ask you to repeat back the information. If they ask you to repeat back, politely decline and say you don't have time. If they say nothing and there is an uncomfortable pause, say something like "Hello?" or "Are we all set?" Once the student says "Goodbye" or closes with something else, close the conversation quickly and hang up.]

ERROR: Mevacor is not used for blood pressure.
CALL BACK:
Student should identify error and ask how you would like to change it. Ask them to hold briefly while you get the chart (prompt for name of patient), and wait about one minute before answering (put phone down).

TA: Thank you for waiting. I gave you the wrong drug. It should be Prinivil, not Mevacor, and that's 20 milligrams, take 1 by mouth every day, number 30, with 5 refills.

If the student identifies an error that is not actually an error, politely say that the prescription is correct as called in and end the conversation.
