In the Month of March :
Reading:
The students will be reading three stories this month. The stories that the students will be reading are Cool Ali by Nancy Poydar, The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash by Trinka Hakes Noble, and The Emperor's Egg by Martin Jenkins. The tests for the readings will be on the Friday of each week. The spelling words will be going home every Monday to practice their words. Remember to complete the spelling homework for each week. The more practice the better!
ELA/Writing:
The students are learning about describing words. We are learning about describing words that tell How Many?, describing words that compare, and describing words that tell the size, color, and shape of an object.
Math:
We are learning about collecting data, organizing the data collected in a representation, and then interrupting the representation. The assessment on this unit will be on Friday, March 25, 2011. We will be conducting a review session the week prior during our math time.
Social Studies:
The class is studying about communities and different jobs in a community. Students will pick their favorite job and put on a presentation for the class with a partner.
Science:
We are learning about bugs. Students will learn the lifecycle of a butterfly, spider, and other insects. We will do a project on the life cycles of different insects in class.
Important News:
We are still going strong on our fundraiser for Pennies for Patients. Our class has raised $213.00 so far and we are in fourth place with the rest of the classes in the school. Please keep bringing in you pennies to help support those at Children's Hospital and win a pizza party for our class! The fundraiser ends Friday, March 11, 2011.
