GBYO/GBYSO SEATING AUDITION PROCEDURE
1. There will be two seating auditions per year for the string sections of both orchestras. The first will occur early in the fall and the other at mid-season. The woodwinds, brass, percussion and harp will audition for seating only in the fall. Everyone must participate in seating auditions.

2. The student will be judged solely on his/her performance of prepared orchestral excerpts taken from the current rehearsed repertoire. Students will receive notification of required excerpts three weeks prior to the seating audition. Audition excerpts will be determined by the conductors.

3. There will be two judges per instrumental section for each seating audition. In GBYO, the two judges will consist of the Music Director and a specialist on that instrument. (The exception to this will be for all GBYO violin auditions, which will include an additional violin specialist.) In GBYSO, the two judges will consist of two specialists on the instrument. Auditions may be taped to assist the judges.

4. As in the entrance auditions, care will be taken to secure judges who do not have students in the section.

5. If a student must be absent from a seating audition, he/she must accept placement at the back of the section. In extreme circumstances the student may petition the Board regarding an alternative audition. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the manager if unable to participate in the seating audition. This notification must be given at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled audition.

6. Vacant or extra seats during the season may be filled by calling on the alternate list. In the absence of an alternate list, the seat may be filled only by special audition, at the discretion of the conductor.

CONCERTMASTER/MISTRESS AUDITIONS FOR GBYO
PRINCIPAL SECOND VIOLIN AUDITIONS FOR GBYO

The Concertmaster/mistress auditions and Principal Second Violin auditions shall be included as part of the violin section seating auditions held in the fall and at mid-season. Any violinist will be eligible to audition for the Concertmaster/mistress and Principal Second Violin. Please note, however: auditioning for Concertmaster/mistress or Principal Second Violin does not guarantee any particular seating position within the section. The applicant must be prepared to play any part of the current violin repertoire, as well as sight-reading. It is the applicants responsibility to inform the General Manager of his/her intent to audition for these positions no later than two weeks prior to the announced seating audition date. The judges will include the Music Director and two violin adjudicators.
