Short Bio

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece. Received the MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical and Electronic Eng. from Tokyo Institute of Technology (TokyoTech), Tokyo, Japan, in 1999 and 2002, respectively.

During his graduate studies at TokyoTech (1996-2002), he was a MEXT scholar, and member of the Sakaniwa - Isao Yamada lab. He stayed again at TokyoTech as a JSPS postdoc fellow from Apr. 2004 to Apr. 2006. Postdoc fellow at the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Athens, Greece (ENTER program), from July 2006 till Aug. 2007.

Served as (tenured) assistant professor at the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Peloponnese, Tripolis, Greece (Sept. 2007 - Aug. 2012). From Sept. 2012 till Apr. 2013, he was a research associate at the Digital Technology Center, University of Minnesota, and from May 2013 till Aug. 2015 he served as a research associate professor at both Dept. of Electrical and Computer Eng. and Digital Technology Center, University of Minnesota.

Served as associate editor (Jan. 2009 - Jan. 2013) and senior area editor (Apr. 2010 - Jan. 2015) of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. He was also an associate editor of EURASIP Signal Processing (Sept. 2016 - Jan. 2018) and EURASIP Journal of Advances in Signal Processing (Apr. 2016 - Jan. 2018). He is currently serving, since Jan. 2018, EURASIP Signal Processing as a senior/subject area editor. He was a member of the IEEE Signal Processing Theory and Methods (SPTM, Jan. 2012 - Dec. 2017) and the EURASIP Signal and Data Analytics for Machine Learning (SiG-DML, Aug. 2015 - Jan. 2018) technical committees. IEEE senior member.

He obetiently serves his two daughters, Rena-Dimitra (8 years old) and Elli (4 years old), as well as his cat, Tsinaki (17 years old). During his scarse free time, he enjoys good food with his wife, Masako.
