CartoDB

Using spatial SQL in CartoDB to create curved line features.

Natural Earth Data

UB Exchange Program Universities

UB Exchange Program Expansion Over Time

I began this task by Acquiring Data (naturalearthdata.com for the first part, and wings.buffal.edu for the second).

Next, we download the desired files into CartoDB.

Once the data is in CartoDB, I used PostGIS SQL to change features and add to add layers.

For this map I wanted to change the features from polygons to points, and from points to lines.

I used the Centroid command to turn the polygons to points, and we use SELECT transform, segmentize, and makeline to create the lines.

For the top map I centered the lines from Spain, and for the second map I centered the lines from UB.
