James Correa has a Master degree in composition, a Bachelor in guitar and is finishing his PhD in composition at University at Buffalo as a Fulbright fellow. His works have been performed in Argentina, United States, Canada, Europe, and in the most important concert halls and Contemporary Music Festivals in Brazil. His music has being interpreted by ensembles and soloists such as Ensemble Orpheus, Ice, Barton Workshop, North/South Consonance, Percussion Ensemble PIAP, Orquestra do Theatro Sao Pedro, Magnus Andersson, Catarina Domenici and so on.
Correa was co-founder and the first director of NMC-POA (a centre for contemporary music in Porto Alegre-Brazil); Associated Composer in the CME (Electronic Music Centre at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil); founder member of the multimedia ensemble Sons Transgênicos; and co-founder of the International Multimedia Festival Multiple-X. He have been a guest composer in contemporary music festivals in Brazil and United States. In the last few years Correa is working in collaboration with the visual artists Marcelo Gobatto and Claudia Paim. He is professor of computer music in the music department at University at Buffalo, and starting in the second semester of 2009, Correa will be professor of composition, computer music, and director of the Computer Music Studio at Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil.
