The Waiting

A man checks into a hotel under the name Villari; the name of his enemy. While lodging there, he takes extreme measures to ensure that he is seen by no one. Very infrequently, he will see a movie, although he will still sit in the last row, and leave before the film reaches its entirety. Only once does he encounter another person, by bumping into them in the street. He pretends that he does not know the person, and returns to the solitude of the hotel. Many night, he dreams that he is found by his enemy, who is accompanied by two other men. While he sleeps, the pursuers shoot him. The sound of the gunshot wakes the false Villari from his dream, only to bring him back to the same bed and the same dream, over and over again. After a couple weeks pass, a knock finally comes on the door. Villari is faced with his executor and his two assistants. He lies in bed, and falls asleep, waiting to be once again saved by his recursive dreams.
