About Me
I am an Associate Professor (with Tenure) in the Department of Management Science and Systems (MSS), School of Management, State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, NY. I am also a core affiliated faculty member of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (IAD) Program at UB. Prior to my current appointment I served as an Assistant Professor in the same department and even before that I was an Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Computational Learning Systems (CCLS) at Columbia University, NY. where I headed the Scalable Analytics Research Group.

My research broadly focuses on machine learning, distributed optimization, large scale distributed and parallel mining, and federated learning. However, the primary focus is in a relatively new sub-field of machine learning called Consensus Based Machine Learning. The federal government and several industry partners have generously funded my research including the National Science Foundation, National Endowment of Humanities, Amazon Web Services, EMC, Mathworks Inc, Epilepsy Research Foundation and the Consolidated Edison Company of New York.

Application areas include Healthcare, Digital Humanities, Smart Environments (smart electrical grid, vehicles, buildings, wearable sensors)

Teaching
I have taught the following courses in the School of Management: (a) MGS 655: Distributed Computing and Big Data Technologies (b) MGS 662: Optimization Methods for Machine Learning (an analytics course that serves as an elective for students from various disciplines including MIS, MBA, Mathematics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and other related disciplines in SEAS) (c) Healthcare Analytics and (d) Special Topics in Information Science (includes Reinforcement Learning or Game Theoretic concepts).
I have also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Columbia University (Courses taught: 'An Introduction to Distributed Data Mining' in Spring 2011 and 2012) and IIIT-Delhi in Spring 2013.
