UB Sailing Qualifies for the War Memorial

The University at Buffalo Sailing Team has qualified for the War Memorial this Fall after a 2nd out of 18 finish at the Fall North Qualifier #2! At the War Memorial, we will compete against the top 18 out of 52 teams in the Mid-Atlantic on November 2nd and 3rd. Wish us Luck!!

UB Sailing Wins Scotch Bonnet Light Race for 2nd Year

The University at Buffalo Sailing Team won the Scotch Bonnet Light Race White Sails Division for the second year in a row this past weekend. The Scotch Bonnet Light Race is an annual keelboat race across Lake Onario from Rochester. The 8 UB Sailors aboard the Orr What, a Freedom 32 sailboat, were treated to medium west winds for most of the regatta and a beatiful star filled sky during the night.

The UB Sailing Team won the Stewart Trophy "Best Corrected Time of the entire Non-Spinnaker Fleet" and won their division by 45 minutes. This markes the second year that our team, the youngest on the water, has won the Non-Spinnaker Fleet. Thank you to the Orr's for providing us their boat to race on.

UB Sailing Qualifies for the America Trophy

The University at Buffalo Sailing Team has qualified for the America Trophy this Spring after a 2nd out of 15 finish at the Spring North Qualifier! At the America Trophy, we will compete against the top 18 out of 52 teams in the Mid-Atlantic. The America Trophy is also a qualifier for Nationals. Wish us Luck!!

UB Sailing Applies for Provisional MASIA Membership

The University at Buffalo Sailing Team has taken the next step to becoming a regular member of MAISA (Mid Atlantic Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association) by applying for Provisional Membership. Provisional Membership is an intermediate membership between Associate and Regular Membership. Provisional Membership entitles all the privilages except those of voting to amend the By-Laws. Our proposal will be subject to vote on Janurary 25, 2013. Wish Us Luck!

UB Sailing to compete in 17 regattas in the 2013 season

The MAISA (Mid Atlantic Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association) draft for the 2013 season is in and its clear we have a very busy season ahead of us. The UB Sailing Team has been admitted to 17 regattas for 2013, 7 this spring and another 10 next fall. We will be competing in our first laser regatta at the North Qualifier at Kings Point and our first team racing regatta, the Pirate Team Race at Hamton University in Virginia. We will also be competing in the Nevin's Trophy at Kings Point where we will sail FJ's, 420's, and Lasers.

Our first regatta of the 2013 Season is on March 3rd at the ODU Open, hosted in Virgina at Old Dominion University. In addition to the 17 listed, UB Sailing intends to compete in the Scotch Bonnet Light Race, a long distance keelboat race on Lake Ontario. We also intend on competing in any regattas we qualify for, which could include: The Henry Luce Trophy/America Trophy, War Memorial, the Atlantic Coast Tournement/Atlantic Coast Champtionship.

UB Sailing finishes the Fall 2012 season off strong

The UB Sailing Team finished off their 2012 season with a 4th place finish at the Timmie Angsten Regatta Held at the Chicago Yacht Club. In addition to this event, we competed in two post-season events; the War Memorial and the Atlantic Coast Tournement. At the War Memorial, we placed 14/18, ranking us 14/52 among all teams in our District (MAISA). Our 14th also Qualified us for the Atlantic Coast Tournement, where we competed against the second 18 teams from New-England to the South-East and finished 13/14. Our 2012 season is highlighted by these post-season events and our first winning of a regatta at the Cornell Open in September, as well as a third place finish at North #2, also at Cornell.
