National Association of Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS)

The National Association of Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS) began when five graduate students met over beers during a November 1986 TA conference in Columbus, Ohio and decided that graduate and professional students needed an organization which would represent their interests at the national level. Six months later, this group was augmented by another dozen interested graduate students.

NAGPS is a not-for-profit organization representing nearly over 500,000 graduate and professional students at over 120 schools in the U.S. It is dedicated to imporving the quliaty of graduate and professional student life in the United States. To this end, NAGPS works to actively promote the interests and welfar of graduate and profession-degree-seeking students in public and private universities. In addition, through its national office and regional networks, NAGPS acts as a clearinghouse for information on graduate and prossional student groups at all stages of development.

NAGPS maintains a web-site that provides a wealth of information relevant to graduate student concerns, with links on the student aid crisis, current federal legislation, employment issues, diversity concerns, international student concerns, health insurance and income tax.
