NETWARE SNA GATEWAY PROCEDURES

The following procedures are to be used to maintain service for our SNA Gateway Network:

At present, there are 38 SNA/Novell Gateways in our network. The PC’s that control each are located in room 116. They are TTMNOV1 – TTMNOV9, TTMNOVA – TTMNOVZ, TTMNOR1 and TTMNOR2.

Users having PC problems should call the lab repair telephone (70) to report any problems with the network or send e-mail to "REPAIR". Calls made before 8:30AM will be recorded by operations to be included in our Remedy database.

The operator should do the following:

  1. Determine if the user is using WSLAN or OMNIPATH. The only way to know this is to ask them.
  2. Check the status of the line by typing in DIS T04________ on the MVS Netview console and record the status. See examples of DIS command output at end of the section.
  3. Inactive the line by typing INACTF T04_____.
  4. Have the user power their PC off/on (hardboot).
  5. Before the user has typed anything on their PC, activate their line by typing ACT T04______.
  6. Check the status again with the DIS T04__________ command.
  7. If this doesn’t work, ask the user for their Albany ID and what application they are trying to use. Then, while you have the user on hold, call Albany and step them through the same procedures while Albany takes the SUNYUB line out on the Albany end.

The operator will also need to ask the user if the application is a RFPROD or research application as the operators in Albany need to know this information.

NOTE: If the user is NOT connecting to Albany, place a work order and send someone over to check their line (after step 3 above).

ATTENTION: Never boot an entire Novell gateway unless you are sure that all of the lines on it are not working and you have notified someone in our Technical Services group.

If you need to boot gateway N4, for example:
