Statement of Research Interests:
Research investigates the anatomical, pharmacological, and behavioral
specificity of dopaminergic influence on male rat sexual behavior. Differential
contributions of
the medial preoptic area to sexual motivation and genital reflexes,
and of the mesolimbic dopamine tract to sensorimotor activation and motor
organization are
studied. Neurotransmitter release during behavior is measured, using
microdialysis and high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical
detection
(HPLC-EC). The roles of hormones and nitric oxide in promoting dopamine
release are also studied, using both microdialysis and immunocytochemistry.
