I am presently an Assistant Professor in the State University of New York at Buffalo, within the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. A linguist by formation, the courses I teach
range from Introductory Linguistics, Syntax and Morphology, to History of the Spanish Language. Coming from a background of philology, psychology and cognitive science, I maintain broad interests that go from the elicitation of formal grammars to language evolution and the relationship between language and other faculties of the mind. In 2003, I defended my dissertation on theoretical linguistics at UMass, and published it with GLSA as Argument Structure and the Lexicon-Syntax Interface. I enjoy teaching both linguistics and language courses, as I understand these two activities to nurture each other in the process of marvelling about the fascinating phenomenon human language is.

“I pursue the study of language as a means to understand the nature of the human being and its place within the wider world. I believe that language occupies a central role in human experience, and as such provides a privileged window into the study of the human mind.”
