An Explorer's Guide to the Westchester County Libraries

A Quick History of WLS

"The mission of WLS is to ensure that all residents have seamless access to excellent library service throughout Westchester County."

The Westchester Library System (WLS) was established in 1958 with the purpose of creating a large network of libraries to better serve the communities in Westchester County, NY. The WLS is one of the 23 public library systems in New York State, consisting of 38 member libraries and 6 additional extension branches, serving a population of just under 1 million residents. All library materials are made available to any library cardholder in the WLS through a delivery service (transporting over 2 million items annually), expanding the resources made available to library users. For more information about the individual libraries, please check out the complete list of libraries.
