An Explorer's Guide to the Westchester County Libraries
North Castle Public Library (Armonk)
The North Castle Public Library serves a population of approximately 12,000 in Armonk, NY. They are open late Monday through Thursday until 8 PM.
The NCPL recently underwent major renovations in 2013 and much of the collection recently reorganized. Children have the entire lower level with lots of space to play and the teen room has computers and iPads. The upper level is a great place to spend the afternoon reading or studying, with high ceilings, lots of natural light, and plenty of nooks to settle into. During busy hours, library users can escape to the mandatory quiet reading room. This library also offers many conveniences for independent library users such as a self-checkout machine and wireless printing (but the staff is also super helpful!). There is a designated parking lot located in front of library that is handicapped accessible, but no bus stops or train stations are within walking distance.
It is an annual tradition for the Friends of the NCPL to raise money for the library by hosting an outdoor art show. This show usually takes place in September and is a must see event that features hundreds of artists from all over the country.
