Chapter 6:
The sailors in this chapter were running around the ship tightening braces, working the jigger gaff, preparing the topgallant and royal yardmen. Below is a diagram of the sails and rigging on a tall ship like the Seahawk. Click on the image to get a better, bigger view.
While the diagram might be helpful in identifying what the
names of the sails are, it doesn’t really give you a feel for what Miss
Doyle
was looking at. A virtual tour of the deck of the tall ship HMS Bounty may provide a better
view. Look around the ship
and make sure to look up and see all of the rigging the sailors were
working
on.
