Laboratory for the Study of Ingestive Behavior

The laboratory studies the neurobiology of ingestive behaviors.  Animals are incredibly good at adjusting intake of food, water, and salt to maintain body fluid and energy homeostasis.  Research in this laboratory examines the neural circuits and biochemistry involved in achieving this regulation.  Understanding how the brain regulates water, salt, and food intake has important implications for understanding the development and treatment of human conditions such as hypertension and obesity.
